Port Error Message Translation for BayStack 450 (ES450)

I haven't read this error message for several years because of the manufacturer discontinued of BayStack 450 (ES450). But, the same issue is discussed on a discussion forum today and I would like to note the translation here.

The follow log was a real case I got several years ago and the Portmask was written in Hex mode as 0x7fffcfff.

Entry Number: 13 sysUpTime: 00:00:00

Bad port(s) detected, Portmask: 0x7fffcfff

First of all, we should convert the Portmask to binary which comes out to be a total of 31 bits. In this case it would be as follows:

111111111111111100111111111111

This is read from right to left and indicates that ports 13 and 14 have failed diagnostics. Bits above the the first 24 that correspond to the switch ports reflect the status of the MDA, cascade and internal chips. This error message always requires chassis replacement unless the bits that are turned off are bits 25 through 28 which correspond to the MDA and would require troubleshooting of the MDA. Reseating the module and booting without it can be done for the MDA troubleshooting.
