The Democracy Gets Knocked Down

The former KMT chairman Lien Chan banqueted Chen Yunlin in The Ambassador Hotel Taipei last night. Meanwhile, hundreds of people against KMT's pro-China policy had several activities protesting Chen's visit outside of hotel. Just a block away from The Ambassador Hotel, polices were infringing democracy and freedom in a record store, Sunrise Records.

According to news, the owner of record store was playing "Songs of Taiwan" and some people stopped in front of the store to listen the music. A few minutes later, almost fifty polices blocked the front door of the record store and some of them compelled the owner to stop the music. People in front of the Sunrise Records started to argue with polices and got either arrested or injured. At that moment, in front of TV, I couldn't believe this could happen in Taiwan. That is just a normal music like what we always listen to and doesn't include any violence or pornography. As the conflict increased, I felt the democracy was rapidly disappearing in Taiwan. This situation also brought me back to thirty years ago; a age with White Terror. I think the natural rights have to be protected and enforced by a government under laws, but could not see anyone from government stood up and fought for them. Instead of those government official, people intensely fought with this absurd power and pro-China policy.

Chen's visit has made Taiwanese be deeply worried and anxious. In other words, this pro-China policy executed by KMT and Ma Ying-Jeou is not allowed by most Taiwanese. If the democracy and freedom disappears in Taiwan someday, Ma and KMT have to take the responsibility. I hope this day will not come forever.
